A sequential reversible belief revision method based on polynomials

چکیده
This paper deals with iterated belief change and proposes a drastic revision rule that modifies a plausibility ordering of interpretations in such a way that any world where the input observartion holds is more plausible that any world where it does not. This change nile makes sense in a dynamic context where observations are received, and the newer observations are considered more plausible than older ones. It is shown how to encode an epistemic state using polynomials equipped with the lexicographical ordering. This encoding makes it very easy to implement and iterate the revision rule using simple operations on these polynomials. Moreover, polynomials allow to keep track of the sequence of observations. Lastly, it is shown how to efficiently compute the revision rule at the syntactical level, when the epistemic state is concisely represented by a prioritized belief base. Our revision rule is the most drastic one can think of, in accordance with Darwiche and Pearl’s principles, and thus contrasts with the minimal change rule called natural belief revision.

متن کاملPerformance Analysis of Reversible Sequential Circuits Based on Carbon NanoTube Field Effect Transistors (CNTFETs)
This study presents the importance of reversible logic in designing of high performance and low power consumption digital circuits. In our research, the various forms of sequential reversible circuits such as D, T, SR and JK flip-flops are investigated based on carbon nanotube field-effect transistors. All reversible flip-flops are simulated in two voltages, 0.3 and 0.5 Volt. Our results show t...
متن کاملAction-timing problem with sequential Bayesian belief revision process
We consider the problem of deciding the best action time when observations are made sequentially. Specifically we address a special type of optimal stopping problem where observations are made from state-contingent distributions and there exists uncertainty on the state. In this paper, the decision-maker's belief on state is revised sequentially based on the previous observations. By using the ...
متن کاملA General Model for Epistemic State Revision using Plausibility Measures
In this paper, we present a general revision model on epistemic states based on plausibility measures proposed by Friedman and Halpern. We propose our revision strategy and give some desirable properties, e.g., the reversible and commutative properties. Moreover, we develop a notion called plausibility kinematics and show that our revision strategy follows plausibility kinematics. Furthermore, ...
متن کاملCognitive Style and Auditor's judgment: Does Cognitive Style mitigate the Impact of recency bias on the auditors’ belief revision process?
Abstract: The purpose of the present study is two-dimensional. First, provide more evidence of the effects of information order on auditors' beliefs, and secondly, examine whether auditors vary their beliefs in different cognitive styles. These goals were achieved through the use of experienced professional auditors. To determine the effects of information sequence, Hogarth and Einhorn’s belie...
